This project received an Honorable Mention in a national architecture competition for the Information Center of the new Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro, standing out among more than 120 competitors. COMPERJ, as the complex is better known, is one of the largest infra-structure projects ever to be built in Brazil, and is currently being undertaken by PETROBRAS, the state-owned oil company. The complex will be located in the municipality of Itaboraí, in the edge of Rio de Janeiro’s metropolitan region.
The Information Center is situated next to COMPERJ’s entrance and is constituted of a visitor center, library, multimedia center, auditorium, 3D cinema, and a museum of petrochemical technology, as well as administration and technical facilities. The proposed architectural solution aims to integrate the sophisticated technological character of the researches developed at COMPERJ with the beautiful surrounding landscape.
