New York, USA
In December 2010 Estúdio Arkiz received the ‘New Practices São Paulo’ award, given to seven architectural studios considered to be representatives of the "new generation" of architecture in São Paulo. Organized by the IAB-SP, this award is a Brazilian version of the "New Practices New York" award, which is conferred every two years by the AIA - American Institute of Architects to seven emerging studios and is now in its third edition.
To strengthen the exchange of ideas and experiences between architects from the two cities, between July and September 2011 the exhibition "New Practices São Paulo" was held in the AIA gallery in New York. The exhibition featured projects of the awarded studios, represented in images, models, video and an "inspirational object." The latter’s function is to symbolize some of the concepts and ideology that guide the work of the studios; Estúdio Arkiz presented its object "The semiotic machine", representing our interest in discussing the question of culture, "meaning" and social communication through architecture.
