Developed in partnership between the offices ARKIZ and Hiperstudio the Cabral Campus of the Federal University of Paraná seeks to establish a deeper dialogue with the urban and cultural context of the city of Curitiba and Paraná, where it is located. The adopted design is a response to the constraints of the place and the context, treating the campus as an extension of the surrounding urban fabric. The project therefore aims to create a permeable and receptive campus, organized by two transversal axes of circulation on the ground floor, with a distinctive urban character.
The functional organization of the proposal is extremely rational, based on a system composed of a base volume that articulates all activities and flows, to which additional buildings with specialized functions are connected. The three annexes, which behave like ‘plug-in’ elements, correspond to each of the departments that would be housed there: Design, Arts and Communication. This system provides ample flexibility of operation and expansion, because each element can expand in an orderly and efficient manner according to the need, without causing any loss of cohesion of the architectural ensemble.
